50 Years of the Camerata Salzburg - Anniversary CD-Box

This CD-Box is dedicated to the Camerata Salzburg, one of the world’s highly acclaimed chamber orchestras, celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2002. The box contains 3 CDs, each of them focussing on the orchestra’s musical directors: Bernhard Paumgartner, Sándor Végh and Sir Roger Norrington. The recordings also include musical highlights with Helen Donath, José van Dam, Leopold Simoneau, Cynthia Sieden, Christiane Oelze & Alfred Brendel.

"I would like to offer the Camerata Salzburg my hearty congratulations on its fiftieth birthday and on the CDs which mark the occasion.
Whilst still a student, I had the good fortune of being present when the Camerata Academica (as it was called at the time) was founded, and was able to attend many of its wonderful concerts under the baton of the unforgettable Bernhard Paumgartner. This happy selection of recordings demonstrates the entire breadth of Paumgartner's artistry with outstanding soloists.
Sándor Végh was more than a most highly esteemed musician to me; he was also a personal friend, with whom I could talk in Hungarian, the language of my schooldays, and share his interest in young musicians. The unforgettable concerts given during the Salzburg Festival made an indelible impression upon me.
The third CD documents the Camerata's work with Sir Roger Norrington, a master in his field and a versatile musician with whom the orchestra has reached new heights. Noted for his vivacity and particularly intelligent programmes, Norrington has greatly expanded the Camerata's repertoire. We can only hope for many more splendid recordings from him and his ensemble."
- Hans Landesmann
