Tarmo Peltokoski leads the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in a spectacular orchestral adaption of Wagner’s Ring. "The Ring: An Orchestral Adventure" is an arrangement by Dutch composer and arranger, Henk de Vlieger, distilling Wagner’s monumental Ring cycle into a thrilling symphonic experience.

Henk de Vlieger’s symphonic poem of the Ring is one of the composer’s four ingenious arrangements of Wagner operas. He captures the essence of each individual opera with subtle alterations to the original score, evoking entire scenes which pass before the listener and delicately tracing essential vocal passages within the orchestral texture. The titling of each section makes it easy for the audience to follow the musical programme in its through-composed form.
Vlieger states his intention "to unite the most important orchestral parts of the Ring in order to create a solid one-part symphonic work" in which "the main plot lines, as in a symphonic poem, are clearly recognisable". He has striven to avoid a potpourri effect and wherever possible to adopt the fragments in their original form. In this he has been, on the whole, successful and if the "slight alterations in the transitional interludes" where "different modulations have been applied" at certain places "or a more fitting orchestration", this has all been done with fair skill even if it is momentarily not Wagner.

Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski will become Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2026/27 season following his tenure as Music Director Designate in 2025/26. The concert took place on 27 & 28 June 2025 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.
